Basic Rules

1. Court & Equipment

Before playing, it’s important to understand the layout and essential equipment.

Key points:

  • Matches can be played as singles (1 vs 1) or doubles (2 vs 2)

  • The shuttlecock must travel over the net and land within boundary lines

  • A match is typically played in a best-of-three games, each to 21 points

  • Players score a point on every rally, regardless of who served

👉 The side winning the rally serves next.

A proper serve sets the tone for the rally and can immediately put your opponent under pressure.

Basic serving guidelines:

  • Contact the shuttle below waist height

  • The racket head must point downward at impact

  • Both feet stay in contact with the floor

  • Serve diagonally into the opponent’s service box

⭐ Beginners should focus on consistency rather than power.

Understanding faults helps prevent unnecessary point losses.

Common faults include:

  • Hitting the shuttle out of bounds

  • Failing to send the shuttle over the net

  • Serving incorrectly

  • Touching the net with your racket or body

  • Striking the shuttle twice

👉 Minimizing simple errors is one of the fastest ways to improve your game.
